FOUR KI DESKING SYSTEMS EARN GREENGUARD CERTIFICATION

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 21, 2007

GREEN BAY, WIS. – KI’s desking systems received GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certification® for low emitting products by the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI).

The 700 Series®, Genesis®, True® and Workzone® desking systems are the latest in a series of KI products to earn GREENGUARD certification. Over the past year, 25 of KI’s seating collections, its Genius® architectural walls and its Prosper® panel system received GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certification for low emitting products.

“Consideration for the environment and for the health and safety of our customers is of primary importance to KI,” said Norman Nance, IIDA, LEED, AP, vice president-marketing, KI. “It is our goal to eventually have all of our applicable product lines GREENGUARD certified. We anticipate additional GREENGUARD certifications in the coming months.”

To achieve GREENGUARD Certification, each desking system passed a series of demanding tests required by GEI that determined the products have low chemical emissions. GEI will monitor these products each quarter to ensure it maintains low emitting status.

GREENGUARD Certification is a referenced standard for furniture and other interior product manufacturers to be specified in projects based on the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Rating System. LEED is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. GREENGUARD certified furniture earns points toward a project receiving certification under the LEED for Commercial Interiors program.

GEI’s methodology for testing and certifying furniture was developed and validated in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Environmental Technology Verification Program. Realistic, worst-case configurations of a product’s components and materials are developed and placed in environmental testing chambers.

GEI is an industry-independent, non-profit organization that oversees the GREENGUARD Certification Program. As an ANSI Accredited Standards Developer, GEI establishes acceptable indoor air standards for indoor products, environments, and buildings. GEI’s mission is to improve public health and quality of life through programs that improve indoor air.
